Part-time Health Minister asleep at wheel as health crisis rolls

Tasmanian Labor

The latest health dashboard shows Tasmania's health crisis continuing to worsen as the Premier and part-time Health Minister Jeremy Rockliff remains asleep at the wheel.

The latest figures show just 34 per cent of patients were seen on time during November at the Royal Hobart Hospital, and 48 per cent at the Launceston General Hospital - its worst result all year.

To make matters worse, ambulance response times are up to 14.6 minutes, nearly a minute longer than this time last year - as paramedics escalate their unprecedented industrial action in their fight for better wages and conditions.

The elective surgery waiting list has also risen at three out of the state's four major hospitals.

And the outpatient waiting list remains at near-record levels, with Category 1 patients at the RHH waiting nearly a year when they should be seen within 30 days.

The Liberals' promised that by 2022, 90 per cent of patients at Tasmania's hospital emergency departments would be seen within four hours, but as with most of their promises, they have completely failed to deliver.

While Jeremy Rockliff spends all his time trying a sell a $750 million stadium in Hobart that no-one wants, Tasmanians' health continues to suffer as they wait far too long for diagnosis and treatment.

Mr Rockliff has told the Advocate newspaper he is up to the task of fulfilling his health responsibilities alongside his role as Premier despite all evidence to the contrary.

This is a critical situation and the Premier needs to get his priorities right once and for all and put the work and funds into our health system to finally get the basics right.
