PB Ronald Reserve artwork installed

The PB Ronald Reserve artwork at the Pakenham Outdoor Pool has been erected.

The Pakenham Outdoor Pool is located at PB Ronald Reserve, Henry St, Pakenham.

The artwork, designed by Melbourne artist Carla Gottgens, was conceptualised after engaging with the local community.

Gottgens and Cardinia Shire Council Cr Carol Ryan spoke to pool-goers on January 27 to gauge what they'd like to see as part of the artwork. Community engagement also included a suggestion box at the pool for three weeks.

After the tidying up of fencing and plant area, the artwork was printed on PVC banner mesh and cable-tied to the new fence. The mesh material was selected after it was deemed to be sustainable, lightweight and meet the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles with a 50 per cent transparency level designed to help prevent unwelcome activity.

The project was carefully developed and assessed by council officers to ensure the most suitable and safest option was implemented.

Council contributed $20,000 to the project through the 2021/22 Capital Works budget, with $15,000 going towards the artwork, and $5,000 spent on maintaining the existing fence structure.
