Perth Becomes National Hub for Major Rowing Events

  • Perth to host three major national rowing events from 2027-2030
  • Events expected to attract thousands of out-of-state visitors
  • Part of the Cook Government's economic diversification strategy to generate valuable tourism dollars for local business and industry

Western Australia has secured three major mass participation events, with Perth selected to host a trio of rowing championships between 2027 and 2030.

Athletes and fans will descend on Perth for the Australian Rowing Championships, Australian Beach Sprint Championships and Annual Masters Rowing Regatta.

Supported by the Cook Government through Tourism WA, the three events are expected to bring thousands of competitors, officials and spectators to Perth, boosting local businesses, hotels and hospitality venues across the metro area.

Kicking off the series of events will be the 2027 Australian Rowing Championships at Champion Lakes, Australia's premier and largest rowing regatta.

The annual week-long event will see a mix of national competitions come together, including the Australian Open Rowing Championships, Australian Open Schools Rowing Championships and the Queen's Cup Interstate Regatta.

The excitement will continue in 2028 when Perth hosts the Australian Beach Sprint Championships, a coastal and beach rowing competition that tests the skills of athletes over a four-day program.

The trifecta will conclude in 2030, when the Annual Masters Rowing Regatta descends on Champion Lakes, with rowers to compete in more than three hundred races over four days.

Mass participation events like these rowing championships form a major part of the Cook Government's economic diversification strategy, to deliver strong economic returns and help grow the State's visitor economy.
