Perth Entertainment Area Consultation Yields Ideas

  • Hundreds of people attend community drop-in sessions to learn more about the Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct and provide their feedback
  • The precinct will bring sport, culture, and community together in a dynamic, multipurpose destination
  • New public infrastructure to benefit the wider community and attract major sporting and cultural events to WA
  • Project is a key part of Cook Labor Government's plan to diversify the economy and create local jobs

Hundreds of residents, sports enthusiasts and other interested community members have now had their say on the new Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct planned for Burswood Park.

Feedback has been received from people living in more than 50 suburbs across the State, through both the digital consultation platform and the drop-in sessions held over the past four days outside Optus Stadium.

Visitors at the sessions held at Optus Stadium spoke directly with the Premier's Parliamentary Secretary, technical experts and staff, providing feedback on what they would like to see incorporated into the design, as well as issues they would like to see addressed.

Those who could not attend will have until close of business on Friday, 20 June to make online submissions on the community consultation platform.

Submissions offered constructive suggestions for special events, permanent amenities for cyclists and other community groups, landscape and environmental enhancements and improved access and facilities for everyday park users.

Preliminary work scheduled in the area in coming weeks includes final geotech investigations around the stadium precinct and further water sampling.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"We committed to providing multiple opportunities for community and stakeholders to contribute to the development of the Perth Entertainment and Sporting Precinct.

"Ideas and feedback received through the community consultation program will help to shape preliminary concept development.

"This is a key WA Government election commitment, which will improve public infrastructure, diversify the economy and support jobs by attracting and hosting major events.

"This project will bring sport, culture and community together at Burswood Park, attracting Australian and international music, entertainment and sporting events, while being open to community and visitors year-round, as it is today."

As stated by Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Daniel Pastorelli:

"The drop-in sessions have been a key element of our program of consultation. The sessions were respectful, and we received constructive and beneficial feedback for the project team.

"People learnt more about all the amenities and facilities that could be delivered as part of this investment and provided their personal input directly to the team for consideration.

"There is no doubt that all interested residents and stakeholders agree that the former golf course site is in need of improvements, especially when it comes to some basic public infrastructure.

"The project team will now incorporate this feedback into the next stage of design work, before the general public will again have their chance to give further feedback, once that work has been undertaken."
