In a career that has stretched five decades (and counting), theoretical physicist Steven Girvin has gone from being a "late-blooming" young academic to one of the world's foremost authorities on quantum computing.

It's a journey the Yale physics community celebrated earlier this year at a two-day "Girvin Fest" honoring the 75th birthday of Yale's Sterling Professor of Physics in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, professor of applied physics at Yale Engineering, and member of the Yale Quantum Institute.
