Plan to introduce unlimited parking at Concord Hospital to help under-siege healthcare workers

Health Services Union

An untimed parking permit will be introduced for staff at Concord Hospital, who have become victims of abuse on public transport.

Canada Bay Mayor Angelo Tsirekas today announced a plan to introduce the permit and extend free parking at Lovedale Place, to allow healthcare workers to drive to work without unnecessary extra costs.

Lovedale Place provides 130 extra car spaces for Concord Hospital staff.

Health Services Union NSW Secretary Gerard Hayes has applauded the decision and is calling on the NSW Government to follow suit.

"Our healthcare heroes have become the victims of physical and verbal abuse on public transport, due to persistent fears of COVID transmission," Mr Hayes said.

"However the NSW Government has abandoned hospital staff by slashing their promised pay rise by one per cent and lifting its temporary pause on parking fees, slugging workers up to $23.60 per week.

"As we are still firmly in the grips of the pandemic, with no vaccination completion date in sight, it is vital the NSW Government supports our healthcare heroes.

"If you work in a hospital, you simply should not have to pay to get to and from work safely."
