Play And Recreation Area Created For Ferndale Community

  • New Wisteria Park in Ferndale now open to the public
  • Park developed with $450,000 in Cook Labor Government funding
  • Community facilities include playgrounds, soccer pitch, gardens and picnic tables

An unused pocket of land in Ferndale has been transformed into a welcoming new play and recreation space for the community, with support from the Cook Labor Government.

The new Wisteria Park next to Fountain College has been developed by the City of Canning and marks the delivery of a $450,000 WA Labor election commitment.

The new Wisteria Park features:

  • children's playground with a basket swing;
  • swings for adults and children;
  • soccer playing area;
  • increased tree canopy and shrubs;
  • new pathways; and
  • picnic tables, benches and logs.

The project has been shaped by strong community feedback and will provide an inclusive space for local children and families.

More improvements are planned for the park, after the Cook Government committed a further $87,000 at the 2025 State Election for additional facilities, including a new barbeque, drink fountain and shelter.

This brings the government's total investment in the park to $537,000.

As stated by Local Government Minister Hannah Beazley:

"The Cook Government is proud to have supported this project which has turned the community's vision for this underutilised space into a reality.

"The new Wisteria Park will provide a much-needed area for play, recreation and community connections that will encourage locals to get outdoors and be active.

"This park will be a valuable community asset that will meet the needs of local families and other residents for many years to come."

As stated by City of Canning Mayor Patrick Hall:

"Wisteria Park gives Ferndale families a new place to meet, play and enjoy the outdoors.

"We are proud to see this project come to life with the support of the WA Government and thank the community for helping shape this space.

"The City of Canning is committed to providing quality spaces for the community.

"Wisteria Park is a great example of what we can achieve when we work together with the community."

As stated by Cannington MLA Ron Sao:

"It's fantastic to see such great recreational facilities being delivered in my electorate for the benefit of the local community.

"Projects like this aren't just about providing quality amenities, they're about building stronger, inclusive and more connected communities."
