In force until 31 March, the ban covers beaches, foreshore reserves and parklands from Langridge Street to Thackeray Street and includes opened and unopened containers of alcohol.
Alcohol can still be enjoyed responsibly in non-glass containers outside the St Kilda foreshore precinct between midday and 8 pm - except when City-wide alcohol bans apply across the key public holiday periods of New Year's and Australia Day and during some major events.
Mayor Louise Crawford said: "Port Phillip's beautiful open spaces and attractions, including St Kilda's iconic beach, are enjoyed by thousands of visitors and residents over the warmer months. That's why we're asking everyone to play their part in helping us keep our City clean, safe and fun for everyone."
Victoria Police will again be enforcing alcohol bans with support from our Local Laws Officers. Alcohol ban breaches attract a $204 fine and alcohol can be confiscated.
Other ways to support our "Play Your Part" summer management campaign include:
• No littering. Use the extra public bins at our beaches and parks. We also undertaking extra beach cleans and bin collections over summer.
• Following our year-long glass ban at foreshore beaches, reserves and parklands from Elwood to Port Melbourne. If you bring glass to any area where this is not permitted, you risk a $204 fine and having your glass items confiscated.
• Always checking signs before taking your dog to the beach as dog off-leash restrictions change from 1 November to 31 March.
• No camping as this isn't allowed on any Council land or public space, in any vehicle, tent, caravan or any other form of temporary accommodation.
• Obeying the rules when using e-scooters to get around.
Citywide alcohol bans will be enforced on New Year's (8 pm 30 December to 12 midday 2 January) and Australia Day (8 pm 25 January to 12 midday 27 January).
There are no Council managed or permitted events or fireworks on New Year's Eve.
Event-specific alcohol bans will be enforced in 2026 for St Kilda Festival and the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.
