A creative project celebrating Monash residents has been named a finalist in the 2026 LG Pro Positive Ageing and Wellbeing Awards.
Poetic Portraits brought together people of different generations to share their stories through poetry and portrait photography. Delivered with RMIT University, the project allowed older and younger residents to connect, create and learn from each other.
The result is a collection of powerful, personal stories — recorded in the writers' own words — that challenge stereotypes and bring the community closer together.
This recognition reflects the creativity and generosity of the 20 residents who took part, as well as the collaboration between Council staff and partners who supported the project.
The LG Pro Positive Ageing and Wellbeing Awards recognise outstanding local government initiatives across Victoria. Award winners will be announced on Wednesday 17 June.
About Poetic Portraits
As part of the creative project, 20 Monash residents each wrote 2 poems and had their portrait taken. Their work was published in a custom book, exhibited around Monash, and helped open the 2025 Monash Seniors Festival.
You can also explore the poems online, including recordings in each poet's own voice.
