Police arrest man after fatal crash in Sydney's southwest

A man has been arrested after five teenagers died in a single-vehicle crash in Sydney's southwest last night.

About 8pm (Tuesday 6 September 2022), emergency services were called to the intersection of Orange Road and East Parade, Buxton, following reports a Nissan Utility had left the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver, an 18-year-old man, was located suffering non life-threatening injuries.

Three teenage girls – two aged 14 and one aged 15 – and two teenage boys – one aged 15 and one aged 16 – could not be revived and died at the scene.

The driver was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics and taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Camden Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

After the man was released from hospital, he was arrested in Bargo about 1.50pm today (Wednesday 7 September 2022), and taken to Narellan Police Station, where he is assisting police with inquiries.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash continues and police are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage or social media to come forward.
