Police arrest man after stabbing police at Findon, South Australia

A police officer has been stabbed in the hand after a violent confrontation at Findon this morning.

Just before 2am Thursday 4 August, police were alerted to two men acting suspiciously in Arnold Close. The men were seen trying door handles of cars and also a home in the street.

Patrols attended the area and located the two men however one of the suspects immediately sped off on a mini dirt bike and was lost sight of.

About 2.45am, PD Rusty and his handler were conducting foot patrols in Noblet Street when he saw a man walking the dirt bike through a garden area of a unit block.

Police confronted the man who produced a screwdriver and threatened police. The suspect then allegedly attacked the officer stabbing him in the hand and making several attempts to stab the police dog.

Urgent assistance was called with the man still armed with the screwdriver when further patrols arrived. He was subsequently disarmed by police and arrested without further incident.

The police officer was treated at the scene by paramedics and on closer inspection of PD Rusty, it was found that his stab resistant harness prevented him from sustaining any injuries.

A 27-year-old man from Findon has been arrested and was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment of dog bite wounds. He will be charged later this morning.
