Police arrest man in Avondale Heights after pursuit

The police Air Wing has assisted the Maribyrnong Vehicle Crime Unit and local police in arresting a man driving an alleged stolen car in Avondale Heights.

The man, who was wanted by police for alleged driving, theft, and criminal damage offences and breaching a court order, was seen driving a stolen Hyundai i30 in Maidstone this morning.

Police first sighted the vehicle in Ballarat Road, Maidstone around 11am.

The Air Wing followed the Hyundai through a number of suburbs including Keilor East, Keilor Park, and Avondale Heights, with stop sticks deployed on Keilor Park Drive in Keilor East.

The vehicle then came to a stop on Bolton Court, Avondale Heights around 11.30am.

The male driver and sole occupant of the Hyundai allegedly fled on foot but was quickly arrested by police just metres away from the vehicle.

A 34-year-old Maidstone man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
