Police arrest woman after scrub fires in East Perth

Officers from Perth Police with the assistance of Strike Force Vulcan investigators have charged a 40-year-old woman as a result of their investigation into two scrub fires that occurred in East Perth on Thursday, 5 January 2023.

It will be alleged about 8.30pm, the woman set fire to grass and fauna along the bank of the Swan River near Kensington Street and Mardalup Park. It will be further alleged the woman walked a short distance to an area just under the Windan Bridge where she set fire to another area of scrub near a wooden fence.

Both fires were spreading quickly before being brought under control by Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

The 40-year-old woman from Morley has been charged with:-

• Two counts of Wilfully Light or Cause to be Lit, a Fire Likely to Injure or Damage

She is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 6 January 2023.
