NSW Police officers will be deployed across the City2Surf event to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for participants, spectators and the wider community.
About 90,000 people have registered to take part in one of the world's largest fun runs, where participants make their way from Sydney's city centre to the iconic Bondi Beach on Sunday (9 August 2025).
Police will conduct a high visibility and mobile police response as part of Operation City2Surf 2026 to ensure the safety and security of participants, event staff and spectators, while working to minimise the impact of the event on residents and the wider community.
The community is urged to plan how they will attend and leave the event, with major road closures and special event clearways in place in Sydney's CBD and Eastern Suburbs.
General duties officers will be posted throughout the 14km race route, including the start and finish-line areas. They will be assisted by specialist officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, Dog Unit, Mounted Unit, Bicycle Unit, PolAir and Police Transport Commands.
Operation Commander, Acting Assistant Commissioner Rohan Cramsie, said police had worked together with other event organisers to deliver a safe and successful fun run.
"City2Surf is one of the largest events on the NSW calendar, and our priority is ensuring everyone can enjoy the day safely," Acting Assistant Commissioner Cramsie said.
"Major events such as City2Surf require extensive planning and coordination, with police working closely with other government agencies and event organisers to create an event that runs smoothly.
"Members of the public are urged to use public transport and take note of the significant road closures and special event clearways.
"Police will be focused on ensuring the safety of participants and spectators while minimising disruptions where possible."
Roads around the start area at Hyde Park will close from 3.30am with major closures through the Eastern Suburbs from 6am.
Roads will progressively reopen in the city from 11.30am then through the Eastern Suburbs between 12pm and 2pm. Around the finish area at Bondi Beach, roads will remain closed until 4pm.
Widespread special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect from 1am along both sides of the entire course. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to signage as vehicles left in special event clearways – even those with local parking permits – will be towed away and fees apply.
Participants and volunteers should take advantage of the additional public transport services in place when travelling to and from the event.
Police Transport Command officers will be patrolling the Bondi Junction public transport interchange to keep the area safe for commuters and members of the general public.
Participants, spectators and the general public are also reminded that Bondi Beach and Bondi Park are alcohol-prohibited areas, which will be enforced by police.
