Police car rammed in Somerton

Police are searching for a stolen tow truck after a police car was rammed in Somerton last night, Victoria Police say.

Police intercepted a Mazda tow truck carrying a utility on the Hume Highway just after 11.30pm.

As the officers got out of the car to speak to the driver, the truck reversed into the police car and fled the scene.

Both officers received minor injuries.

The stolen tow truck was later found abandoned in the Cooper Street service road in Campbellfield still loaded with the utility which is believed to be stolen.

Hume Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating have released CCTV of the incident.

Anyone with dash cam footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
