Following careful consideration, SAPOL will suspend the current search efforts for the missing three-month-old infant at Port MacDonnell.
Based on expert advice and available information, the infant could not have survived the period of time that has elapsed, either in the water or on land. Additionally, a range of factors, including the search environment and prevailing weather conditions, significantly reduce the likelihood of locating the infant in the immediate term.
Accordingly, the coordinated search operation was ceased at 4.30pm today, 29 July.
While formal search activities have ceased, SAPOL will continue to coordinate shoreline monitoring and inspections across the coming days.
The investigation into the circumstances of this tragic incident remains ongoing, and SAPOL will continue preparing a report for the coroner.
SAPOL acknowledges and sincerely thanks all personnel involved in the search effort, including police officers, State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers and members of the community, whose dedication and commitment have been greatly appreciated during this difficult operation.
