Police have charged eight people following a two-day operation on Sydney's public transport.
On Wednesday 22 April 2026, officers attached to Police Transport Command North West commenced a proactive two-day operation using an intelligence-led approach to target violence offenders on the public transport network in Sydney's north west.
Following extensive inquiries, police arrested and charged eight people, who all remain before the court.
Incidents of note include:
- About 3pm on Thursday 19 March 2026, officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command commenced an investigation following reports of two Transport Officers were assaulted by a woman when they were checking Opal card compliance on a train in Ashfield. Following inquiries, about 3.30am on 22 Wednesday 22 April 2026, a 31-year-old woman was arrested at a home on Bursill Street, Guildford. She was taken to Granville Police Station where she was charged with common assault and travel or attempt travel without valid ticket. She was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday 13 May 2026.
- About 4.50pm on Thursday 23 April 2026, a 35-year-old man was arrested at Windsor Police Station. Police will allege the man assaulted a 34-year-old man at Parramatta Railway Station on Sunday 15 March 2026 and a 43-year-old man at Blacktown Railway Station on Friday 10 April 2026. It is believed both men were not known to the 35-year-old man. He was charged with affray and common assault. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Blacktown Local Court on Thursday 21 May 2026.
- Just after 9.15pm on Wednesday 18 March 2026, officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command were called to Auburn Railway Station following reports of a 42-year-old man was threatened by a man known to him before a second man – a 49-year-old station employee – was also threatened. Following inquiries, about 6.50pm on Wednesday 22 April 2026, police arrested a 25-year-old man at a park on Rawson Street, Auburn. He was taken to Auburn Police Station where he was charged with an outstanding warrant on assault occasioning actual bodily harm, use etc offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm. He was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court yesterday (Thursday 23 April 2026), where he was refused bail to appear at the same court on Thursday 4 June 2026.
- On Wednesday 25 February 2026, officers attached to The Hills Police Area Command commenced an investigation following reports of a man was assaulted on a metro between Hills Show Ground Station and Castle Hill Station. Police were told the 47-year-old man was assaulted about 8.30am the same day before the second man alighted at Epping Station. As a part of an investigation, on Wednesday 22 April 2026, officers attached to Police Transport Command released an image of a man who they believe can assist with their inquiries. Following inquiries, about 7.50pm yesterday (Thursday 23 April 2026), a 42-year-old man was arrested at Castle Hill Police Station. He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and affray. He was granted bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday 13 May 2026.
Commander of Police Transport Command North West - Acting Superintendent Scott Carr - says travelling on public transport should be a safe and comfortable experience and there is no place for offenders who commit violence against other passengers or staff.
"The message from police is clear. Offences on public transport will not be tolerated, and police will bring offenders who endanger the safety of the travelling public and transport workers before the court and to ensure they face the consequences."
"There are more than 13,000 CCTV cameras across the transport network and Police work closely with partner agencies to identify those involved in criminal offences and respond promptly. If you commit acts of violence on public transport you should expect police to be knocking on your door within days."
