Five men have been charged with drug supply following a music festival at Sydney Olympic Park last night.
The festival ran from 5pm to 12am (Saturday 15 June 2019), with an estimated crowd of 7,700.
The police operation involved officers from South West Metropolitan Region, assisted by specialist units including the Dog Unit, Licensing Police, Region Enforcement Squad and Police Transport Command.
A total of 19 people were allegedly found in possession of prohibited drugs. Of note, a 24-year-old man was charged with drug supply, resist arrest and deal with proceeds, after allegedly being found with 160 MDMA pills. He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 16 June 2019).
An 18-year-old man was allegedly found with 107 MDMA pills and was charged with drug supply and possess prohibited drug. He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today.
Two 19-year-olds and a 21-year-old man were charged with drug supply and possess prohibited drug.
They were granted conditional bail, with the younger men to appear before Burwood Local Court on Thursday 11 July 2019 and the older man will appear at the same court on Thursday 18 July 2019.
Additionally, 14 people were issued Field Court Attendance Notices for drug possession, 19 people were ejected for intoxication and 40 people were refused entry.
Furthermore, 19 juveniles were refused entry after producing false identification. They were dealt with under the Young Offenders Act and were collected from the venue by parents or caregivers.
Police Operation Commander, Superintendent Michael Rochester, said he is pleased with the overall behaviour of attendees, but is still disappointed to see people attempting to bring illegal substances into these events.
"These results show that if you are intent on bringing drugs to music festivals, you will be caught and dealt with accordingly," Supt Rochester said.
"We want people to enjoy themselves and be safe at these events, not risk their health and wellbeing".
