Police charge man after evade police incident at Fremantle

Officers from the Regional Investigations Unit (RIU) have arrested a 38-year-old man in relation to an evade police incident that occurred on Friday 9 December 2022.

Shortly after 10am, police sighted a Subaru Forester SUV – believed to have been stolen from a home in Bentley between 23 November 2022 and 5 December 2022, then used in two home burglaries in Daglish this week – travelling on Melville Beach Road in Applecross.

Officers activated emergency lights and sirens and attempted to stop the vehicle; however, it will be alleged the male driver failed to stop and continued to travel at speed across the Perth metropolitan area.

Police Air Wing monitored the vehicle and assisted officers on the ground, before the vehicle stopped on Tuckfield Street in Fremantle.

The male driver fled on foot into bushland, before climbing onto the roof of a building on Canning Highway, Fremantle.

A trained police negotiator attached to RIU attended the scene – and with the assistance of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) – the man was assisted from the roof about 12:10pm.

The Orana man was arrested and taken to Perth Watch House, where he was charged with:

• Reckless Driving To Escape Pursuit By Police

• Steal Motor Vehicle And Drive Recklessly

• Burglary And Commit

• Stealing

• No Authority To Drive (Never Held)

• Driver Of A Vehicle Failed To Comply With A Direction To Stop (Circumstance Of Aggravation)

• Driver Fail To Stop (Property Damage)

He will appear at Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow, Saturday 10 December 2022.
