A 31-year-old Victorian man appeared before Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday (26 May 2021) after Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers seized nearly 30kg cannabis from two suitcases at the Brisbane Airport domestic terminal.
AFP officers and the canine team were patrolling the arrivals baggage processing area Tuesday afternoon when detection dog Cuba identified two suspicious suitcases.
Officers searched the bags and seized 29.6 kg of cannabis, which was professionally packed in vacuum sealed bags, as well as more than $3000 in cash.
The Victorian man who had allegedly checked in the luggage was charged with one count of possession of a dangerous drug, under section nine of the Queensland Drug Misuse Act. The potential maximum penalty for the offence is 25 years imprisonment.
Police opposed bail and the man appeared before Brisbane Magistrates Court yesterday, Wednesday, 26 May.
