Baw Baw Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following a fire at a funeral home in Warragul last night.
It is alleged a man walked along Howitt Street towards the funeral home on Korumburra-Warragul Road, where he smashed several windows on the side of the building about 7.30pm.
Police will allege he then threw an item inside, starting the fire, then fled on foot along Landsborough Street.
A staff member was inside at the time of the incident and managed to self-evacuate uninjured.
There was significant damage to the building.
Officers searched the area and arrested a 43-year-old man nearby.
The Warragul man has been charged with:
- criminal damage by arson
- reckless conduct endangering life
- reckless conduct endangering serious injury
- committing an indictable offence whilst on bail
He was remanded to face Latrobe Valley Magistrates' Court today.
