Police Charge Man After Williamstown Assault

Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man following an alleged assault in Williamstown yesterday.

It is understood the victim, a 92-year-old woman, was approached by a man outside a shopping centre on Douglas Parade about 12.20pm.

Police will allege the man struck the female to the head, before she fell to the pavement and lost consciousness.

The woman, who is from Williamstown, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 39-year-old man was restrained by members of the public until police arrived a short time later.

The man, who is of no fixed address, has since been charged with intentionally cause injury, and will appear before Melbourne Magistrates' Court today.
