Police charge man over armed robbery - Murray River

A man has been charged over an alleged armed robbery in the Murray River region earlier this week.

Between 8pm to 8.20pm on Monday (7 June 2021), police have been told two women – aged 20 and 21 – had arranged to meet a friend at Jelbart Park in Moore Street, Lavington.

While waiting, the women were approached by a man who threatened the younger woman with a knife, while demanding cash from both women. The man stole cash and fled the scene in a vehicle.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, police attended a home on Kokoda Street, North Albury, about 9.20am yesterday (Tuesday 8 June 2021), where they located a 23-year-old man in a shed. The man was arrested and a knife was seized.

He was taken to Albury Police Station and charged with robbery whilst armed with an offensive weapon and possession of a prohibited weapon without a permit.

The man appeared before Albury Local Court yesterday (Tuesday 8 June 2021), where he was formally refused bail to appear in the same court on Tuesday 3 August 2021.
