Police charge man over armed robbery - Riverina

A man will appear in court today charged following an investigation into an armed robbery in the state's Riverina region last month.

About 11.20pm on Wednesday 31 August 2022, a man – armed with a firearm – entered a service station on Illabo Road, Junee, and allegedly threatened the employee, demanding cash.

After not being able to open the cash register, the armed man allegedly stole it and fled on foot.

The employee was not physically injured, and officers attached to Riverina Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic police.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 27-year-old man at a home on Callghan Street, Ashmont, about 4.30pm yesterday (Friday 9 September 2022).

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station and charged with robbery whilst armed with a dangerous weapon.

The man was refused bail to appear before Wagga Wagga Bail Court today (Saturday 10 September 2022).
