Police charge man over fatal crash near Tamworth

A man has been charged following the death of a child in a crash near Tamworth last year.

Just before 4.30pm on Sunday 16 December 2018, a Great Wall utility was travelling south on the New England Highway at Moonbi, when it left the road and struck a tree.

A three-year-old boy, who was a backseat passenger in the car, died at the scene.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, was airlifted to Tamworth Hospital with minor injuries.

Officers from the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following inquiries, the man was arrested today (Tuesday 14 May 2019) and taken to Tamworth Police Station.

The Oxley Vale man was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death; and negligent driving occasioning death.

He was given bail to appear in Tamworth Local Court on 24 June 2019.

The man's licence was suspended.
