Police charge man over Matraville incident

A man will face a bedside court hearing today charged over an incident at Matraville earlier this week.

The charges relate to an incident when officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command were called to Bunnerong Road, shortly before 4.30pm Wednesday (26 October 2022), responding to reports a man armed with a knife was assaulting two women.

Police discharged a Taser and firearm during the arrest of a 26-year-old man inside a nearby carpark, after allegedly threatening them with a knife.

That man has now been charged with five offences: being armed with intent commit indictable offence, assault police officer in execution of duty (three counts), and shoplifting.

The man, who is from Maroubra, will face a bedside hearing at Waverley Local Court later today (Friday 28 October 2022).

He remains in St Vincent's Hospital in a stable condition
