Police charge man with drug trafficking at King Island

Police have charged an 18-year-old man from Shorewell with Trafficking in a Controlled Substance in relation to a drug intercept on King Island on Friday.

As a result of an ongoing investigation by King Island Police into the supply of illicit drugs to King Island, police allege the man was intercepted with a trafficable quantity of Amphetamine in excess of 1 ounce.

Police will allege the man was intercepted at King Island Airport, disembarking from a commercial flight from Burnie Airport.

"Police are committed to removing drugs from our community and screening the air, sea and mail corridors for all illicit drugs," said Sergeant Mark Lopes from Currie Police Station.

"This interception successfully removed a quantity of harmful substances destined for the King Island community."

The police investigation is ongoing to identify any other person involved in this drug trafficking incident.

The charged man was bailed to appear before the Court at a later date.
