Police charge man with house fire in Butler

Arson Squad investigators have arrested a 36-year-old man as a result of their investigation into a house fire in Butler yesterday, Wednesday 12 July 2023.

It will be alleged the man went to the home on Pendleton Crescent about 2.20pm and entered the garage where he used an ignition source to ignite property in the garage, causing the items to catch fire.

The fire engulfed the garage roof space, spreading to the remainder of the house. Luckily an occupant inside the home was able to exit the house safely.

The fire caused significant structural, smoke and cosmetic damage, rendering the home uninhabitable and beyond repair. The total cost of the damage is estimated to be in excess of $300,000.

The 36-year-old man from Butler has been charged with:-

• Criminal Damage by Fire; and

• Possessed any Drug Paraphernalia in or on which there was a Prohibited Drug or Plant.

He is due to appear before the Joondalup Magistrates Court today, 13 July 2023.
