Police Charge Man With Serious Offences At Broome

Broome Detectives have charged a 43-year-old man with three serious offences as a result of their investigation into an incident that occurred in Broome on Monday, 12 May 2025.

It will be alleged about 6:40pm, a woman in her 40s was walking along Fredrick Street when a man grabbed her from behind. It will be further alleged the man physically assaulted the woman before attempting to sexually assault her.

The woman managed to get away from the man and report the incident to police. Broome Detectives immediately commenced an investigation and on Tuesday 13 May 2025, they apprehended and charged the accused.

A 43-year-old man from Kununurra is due to appear before the Broome Magistrates Court today, 14 May 2025 on the charges of:

• Deprivation of Liberty;

• Aggravated Indecent Assault; and

• Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm.

Superintendent John Hutchison of the Kimberley District said "I would like to reassure our community; the WA Police Force treat any offence involving violent or predatory behaviour very seriously and a team of specialist detectives from Perth travelled to Broome to assist with investigative actions. This was an isolated incident."
