Police Charge Suspect After Glenfield Assault & Stabbing

Seven people have been charged following investigations into a stabbing at a train station in Sydney's west last month.

About 9.30pm on Saturday 25 February 2023, two males – aged 15 and 18 – were travelling on a train, when they were allegedly approached by a group of males not known to them and threatened with a knife.

After getting off the train at Glenfield Railway Station, the unknown group of males were joined by more males – their group totalling approximately 10 in total.

The group allegedly assaulted the 15 and 18-year-olds; with the 18-year-old stabbed multiple times and hit over the head with a bottle, before the group fled the scene.

Both the 15 and 18-year-olds were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics, before being taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition. They have since been released.

Following a search of the area, officers attached to Police Transport Command arrested two boys - aged 12 and 13 - a short distance away.

They were taken to Campbelltown Police Station where they were charged with affray to appear in a Children's Court on Monday 27 March 2023.

Following further inquiries, officers today (Friday 17 March 2023) executed two search warrants at homes in Ingleburn and Macquarie Fields, and arrested five additional males – two aged 19, and three aged 16.

A 19-year-old was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault person intend criminal activity of criminal group, reckless wounding - in company, affray and armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 18 March 2023).

Another 19-year-old was charged with assault person intend criminal activity of criminal group and affray. He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Saturday 18 March 2023).

A 16-year-old boy was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, assault person intend criminal activity of criminal group, reckless wounding - in company, affray and armed with intent to commit indictable offense. He was bail refused to appear before a Children's Court tomorrow.

Another 16-year-old boy was charged with assault person intend criminal activity of criminal group, and affray. He was bail refused to appear before a Children's Court on Friday 24 March 2023.

A final 16-year-old boy was charged with assault person intend criminal activity of criminal group, posess bestiality material and affray. He was released on conditional bail to appear before a Children's Court on Monday 3 April 2023.

Investigations are continuing.

Police Transport Commander, Superintendent Mark Wall said it was a cowardly and unprovoked assault.

"The two victims were travelling home when they were set upon by the group for no apparent reason," Superintendent Wall said.

"Police conducted a meticulous investigation which has resulted in the alleged offenders being arrested for this disgraceful display of violence.

"Officers from the Police Transport Command are committed to keeping the public safe whilst travelling on public transport.

"If people want to assault commuter, then you will be receiving a visit from police," Superintendent Wall said.
