Police charge three after drugs seized from search

Three people have been charged with alleged drug offences following a search warrant in the state's Lake Illawarra region yesterday.

About 8am (Thursday 22 June 2023), officers attached to South East Region Enforcement Squad (RES) – with assistance from the Southern Domestic Violence High Risk Offenders Team and the Dog Unit – executed a search warrant at a home on Flagstaff Road, Berkeley.

During the search, police located and seized quantities of heroin, cocaine, methylamphetamine and cannabis, as well as ammunition and almost $5000 cash, suspected of being the proceeds of crime.

Two men – aged 22 and 31 – and a 59-year-old woman were arrested at the scene and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

The younger man was charged with eight offences:

  • Possess prohibited drug (three counts),
  • Supply prohibited drug (three counts),
  • Organises/conducts/assists drug premises, and,
  • Recklessly deal with proceeds of crime.

He was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 23 June 2023).

The older man was charged with possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, acquire etc ammunition subject to prohibition order, and possess prohibited drug.

He appeared in Wollongong Local Court where he was granted conditional bail to reappear in the same court on Tuesday 4 July 2023.

The woman was charged with six offences:

  • Possess prohibited drug (two counts),
  • Supply prohibited drug (two counts),
  • Organises/conducts/assists drug premises, and,
  • Recklessly deal with proceeds of crime.

She was granted conditional bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Wednesday 26 July 2023.
