Police charge two after attempted kidnapping - Ultimo

A man will appear in court today, one of two men charged following an alleged attempted kidnapping at Ultimo earlier this month.

About 1.15am on Friday 1 May 2020, a 19-year-old woman was walking along Jones Street, when a vehicle pulled up and two men and their dog, got out and began following her.

One of the men approached the woman from behind and allegedly grabbed hold of her, placing a hand over her nose and mouth.

The woman struggled, falling to the ground and calling for help. The second man ran off with the dog.

A passer-by saw the woman struggling and went to her aid.

The man released his grip and fled, with both men returning to the vehicle on Kelly Street, and driving off.

Officers from Sydney Police Area Command were notified and commenced investigation.

Following extensive inquiries, a 24-year-old man was arrested following a vehicle stop at Taree about 11.15pm on Wednesday (27 May 2020).

He was charged with stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (personal).

The man appeared at Port Macquarie Local Court on Thursday (28 May 2020) and was formally refused bail to reappear at Central Local Court on Thursday 4 June 2020.

Following further inquiries, detectives arrested a second man, aged 33, at a unit on Haynes Street, Penrith, just before 10am yesterday (Friday 29 May 2020).

He was charged with attempt take/detain person in company with intent to obtain advantage. An outstanding warrant was also executed.

The man was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 30 May 2020).
