Police charge woman after pursuit ends in crash at Wauchope

A woman will face court today, charged after a pursuit on the Mid North Coast yesterday.

About 3.20pm (Tuesday 16 August 2022), officers attached to Mid North Coast Police District attempted to stop a silver BMW sedan on Blackbutt Drive, Wauchope.

After failing to stop, and allegedly accelerating away from police, a pursuit was initiated.

Police pursued the car along Bago Road and the Pacific Highway at Hannam Vale, before the car lost control and crashed into barriers on Waitui Road.

The driver – a 26-year-old woman – and her passenger – a 38-year-old man – were uninjured and arrested at the scene.

A search of the vehicle allegedly returned a sum of cash and illicit drugs which were seized and will undergo further examination.

The pair were taken to Port Macquarie Police Station, where the man was released without charge.

The woman was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed, two counts of possess prohibited drug, possess Schedule 9 substance and licence expired less than 2 years before.

She was refused bail to appear before Port Macquarie Local Court today (Wednesday 17 August 2022).
