Police investigate sexual assault at music festival

Sexual Crimes Squad detectives are appealing for public assistance after a woman was sexually assaulted at the Rainbow Serpent Music Festival in Lexton on 26 January 2017, Victoria Police say.

Police have been told a 21-year-old woman was walking along the outer edge of the south camp section at the festival when she struck up a conversation with an unknown man sometime between 3pm and 7pm.

After a short conversation, the woman told the man she was going for a walk to the main festival area when he grabbed her by the hair and throat.

The man then pushed her up against a van and sexually assaulted her.

The victim managed to get away when the man followed her and grabbed her again before sexually assaulting her another two times.

The woman pushed the male away before he bit her twice to her upper arm.

He then got into a hammock and the woman returned to her campsite.

The offender is described as 28 to 29-years-old with sandy brown hair, blue eyes a pointy nose, 165cm to 170cm tall and was wearing a grey t-shirt.

Detectives have released a digital image of a man that may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Investigators are keen to speak to anyone that may have witnessed the incident or any festival goers in that particular area at the time.
