Police investigate serious assault at Paramedic - Midland

Midland Detectives have charged a man in relation to the serious assault of a St Johns Ambulance Paramedic in Midland early this morning.

Around 3am, the paramedic was walking with a male into the entry of St John of God Hospital in Midland when it will be alleged, the male threw a punch, striking the paramedic to the side of his face. The paramedic fell to the ground unconscious and the male ran off.

Police attended a short time later and with the assistance of security from St John of God Hospital, a male was located nearby and arrested.

As a result of the assault, the paramedic, aged in his 40's, received a broken jaw.

A 28 year old man from Midland has been charged with Assault Public Officer (Prescribed Circumstances, Adult).

The man remains in custody and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court tomorrow, Sunday 25 August 2019.
