Police investigating after armed holdup - Mayfield

An investigation is underway following an armed robbery in the Newcastle area.

Just before 10.45pm yesterday (Monday 29 August 2022), a white Holden sedan entered a drive-through bottle shop on Maitland Road at Mayfield from Hanbury Street.

Police have been told that two men – both armed with knives – exited the vehicle and threatened a 23-year-old male employee while demanding money.

Both men then returned to the car and fled with a sum of cash, cigarettes, and the man's mobile phone, and were last seen heading north on Maitland Road.

Police were alerted and officers from Newcastle City Police District attended, established a crime scene and conducted a canvass of the area.

The employee wasn't injured during the incident and his phone has since been recovered.

As inquiries continue, investigators are appealing for public assistance to identify and locate those involved.

Both men are described as being about 170cm to 180cm tall and of a medium to solid build.

They were wearing high visibility jumpers, blue coloured pants, white shoes and black gloves.
