Police investigating after ram raid - Kotara

An investigation is underway following a ram raid near Newcastle today.

About 4.45am today (Monday 22 August 2022), a Toyota SUV – allegedly stolen from a home on Bridges Road, New Lambton, between 9pm on Sunday 21 August 2022 and the time of the incident – was used to ram into a business on Bradford Close, Kotara, via a loading dock.

Two males exited the vehicle inside the business and allegedly attempted to access two cash registers.

The pair then returned to the Toyota and allegedly attempted to ram the front glass sliding doors of the business; however, when the vehicle became stuck, they fled the scene on foot.

No cash or items were stolen.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police conducted a search of the area; however, the two males were not located.

Inquiries are continuing.
