Police lay charges after fatal collision in Leongatha

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man in relation to a fatal collision in Leongatha last month.

Emergency services were called to a two car collision on South Gippsland Highway near Steele Street just after 3am on 18 November.

There were two occupants in the first vehicle, a 74-year-old woman and 79-year-old man, both from Meeniyan.

The man died at the scene whilst the woman was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The other vehicle's single occupant, a 17-year-old man from Leongatha, was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.

He was released from hospital today and has been charged with multiple offences including manslaughter, dangerous driving causing death and culpable driving.

The man, who is now 18-years-old, has been remanded to appear in Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Monday 23
