Police lay charges after man stabbed during break and enter at Oxley Vale

A man will face court today charged after a resident sustained serious leg injuries during an aggravated break and enter in the state's New England region overnight.

Just after 1am (Wednesday 7 July 2021), a man and woman allegedly forced their way into a house at Kirkham Crescent, Oxley Vale, by smashing a window and kicking in the front door.

Police will further allege the man assaulted the two residents – a 45-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman – with a steal bar and a watering can, before retrieving a knife from the kitchen and stabbing the man in both calves causing deep lacerations.

Officers from Oxley Police District responded and arrested a 20-year-old man inside the house. The woman fled prior to police arrival.

The man was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence.

He was refused bail and appeared at Tamworth Local Court today (Wednesday 7 July 2021), where he was formally refused bail to reappear before the same court on Wednesday 15 September 2021.

The injured man was taken to Tamworth Base Hospital and will require surgery for his leg injuries. The woman was treated for a minor hand injury.

Investigations into the incident are continuing.
