Police Lay Charges After Pursuit Through Sydney's West

A man has been charged following a pursuit through Sydney's west.

About 5am yesterday (Friday 12 April 2024), police commenced an investigation following reports a Mercedes AMG sedan had been stolen during a home invasion in Henley.

Just after 11am yesterday (Friday 12 April 2024), police attached to Burwood Police Area Command and Highway Patrol attempted to stop the vehicle in Campsie.

A pursuit was initiated after it failed to stop and continued through multiple suburbs before being terminated due to safety concerns.

A short time later police attempted to stop the Mercedes in Leigh Avenue, Concord, where it allegedly rammed into two police vehicles.

The driver, a 19-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Burwood Police Station.

One of the officers suffered a laceration to his hand and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The man was charged with:

- Aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal

- Steal motor vehicle

- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously (two counts)

- Use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention

- Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty

- Custody of a knife in a public place

- Recklessly deal with proceeds of crime

- Participate criminal group contribute criminal activity

- Never licensed person drive vehicle on road

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 13 April 2024).
