Police lay charges - Aggravated assault in Katherine 31 May

Serious Crime detectives have charged a man for a historic aggravated assault in Katherine last year.

On 10 October 2022, 2 men allegedly assaulted 3 people sleeping in a shelter on First Street, Katherine.

Detectives have been investigating since the incident and arrested a 32-year-old man yesterday in Acacia.

A search warrant was conducted on his residence in Girraween where a number of illegal items were seized including an unsecured firearm, sword fish rostrum and a live crocodile.

The man has since been charged with:

  • Aggravated assault x 3
  • Possess/use firearm unlicensed
  • Possess/use firearm without permit
  • Fail to meet storage requirements

He was bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on 13 June 2023.

Investigations into the assaults remain ongoing.
