Police lay charges - Aggravated Assault - Roper Gulf

Northern Territory Police have acted swiftly to charge a 30-year-old male after a string of offences in a remote community on Tuesday 23 February 2021.

The offender allegedly picked up a 19-year-old man who was known to him and allegedly drove him without consent 90km out of the community before stopping the vehicle and allegedly assaulting him. The 19-year-old fled the car and was allegedly pursued into bushland before the offender left the location in his vehicle.

The offender then allegedly drove back to the victim's home and threatened residents with an edged weapon.

The 19-year-old man spent the night in the bush before a passing motorist assisted him in calling police.

The 30-year-old man has been charged with:

  • Deprive a person of personal liberty
  • Aggravated assault
  • Unlawful entry

He has been remanded in custody in Darwin to appear in court 25 February 2021.
