Police lay charges over drug offences at Nhulunbuy

Drug and Organised Crime detectives attached to the Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk have charged a 34-year-old male and 31-year-old female with drug offences.

Police executed a search warrant at Nhulunbuy Post Office on Wednesday 11 December at which time they located a package containing 1 gram of methamphetamine which was addressed to the male.

A subsequent search warrant was conducted at the male's residence. During the search, Drug Detector Dogs Hugo and Astra assisted police in locating loose cannabis, cannabis bongs, ice pipes, deal bags and $1000 cash. Police also located a crocodile skull which was being held without a permit.

The male has been charged with:

  • Possess schedule 1 drug - less than traffickable quantity
  • Possess schedule 2 drug - traffickable quantity
  • Supply schedule 2 drug in Indigenous community - less than commercial quantity
  • Possess thing to administer drug
  • Receive or possess property in commission of an offence
  • Possess/control protected animal

The female has been charged with:

  • Possess schedule 2 drug - traffickable quantity
  • Supply schedule 2 drug in Indigenous community - less than commercial quantity
  • Possess thing to administer drug
  • Receive or possess property in commission of an offence
  • Possess/control protected animal

Both were bailed to appear in Nhulunbuy Local Court on 11 February 2020.
