Police lay charges over property offences in Alice Springs 20 January

Northern Territory Police have charged a 24-year-old man in relation to a number of property offences in Alice Springs yesterday.

At 4:30am, the alleged offender unlawfully entered a hotel on Scott Terrace causing damage and threatening an employee with a blunt weapon, before stealing a quantity of alcohol and fleeing the scene.

General duties members arrested the man on Harvey Street and he has since been charged with:

  • Damage to property
  • Aggravated unlawful entry
  • Stealing
  • Aggravated robbery
  • Going armed in public

He was remanded in custody to appear before Alice Springs Local Court today.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Janice Kershaw said "It was the quick response from the Alice Springs general duties members that allowed for the successful apprehension of the alleged offender.

"The Criminal Investigations Branch have since taken carriage of the matter.

"Police continue to urge the public to report anti-social behaviour and crime to 131 444 or in an emergency 000."
