Police make arrest after Footscray evade

Police have arrested a 48-year-old Footscray woman following an alleged evade in Footscray earlier this morning.

Officers attempted to intercept a silver Nissan X-Trail on Joseph Road, Footscray about 1am on Wednesday 12 July.

The Nissan drove off on police and the Air Wing was called in to follow the vehicle.

The car was followed by the Air Wing until the driver returned to Dynon Road, Footscray near the Maribyrnong River.

It is alleged the woman exited the vehicle and pushed the Nissan into the river before also entering the water.

Units attended and retrieved the woman from the river.

She was taken to hospital for treatment to pre-existing injuries while the Nissan came to rest against the Hopkins Street Bridge.
