Police make arrest - Assault police in Alice Springs 11 January

Northern Territory Police arrested a male after he was caught unlawfully attempting to enter a residence in Gillen earlier this morning.

Police were revisiting a victim of a previous offence when the officer observed a male person inside a neighbouring yard, attempting to enter the property unlawfully.

The officer engaged with the male, who allegedly physically assaulted her before fleeing the scene. The offender, a 17-year-old male, was swiftly apprehended by the combined efforts of General Duties, Strike Force Viper, and Operation Drina patrols. He remains in police custody and is expected to be charged later today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Michael Budge said, "The incident highlights the dedication of our officers to maintaining community safety. Despite being punched in the face, pushed to the chest, and enduring a foot chase, the officer pursued the offender until the arrest.

"Police continue encouraging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities immediately."
