Police make arrest - Domestic violence - Palmerston

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to multiple assaults in Palmerston.

Between the hours of 9pm and 11pm on Saturday 4 December 2021, two teenage girls were assaulted by the male partner of one.

It is alleged that the 19-year-old man used a weapon during the attack that took place on the corner of Packard Avenue and Redmond Crescent, Durack.

A 16-year-old girl was taken to Palmerston Regional Hospital for treatment.

Detectives from the Domestic and Family Violence section arrested the man over the weekend, after he attended a residence and allegedly assaulted his teenaged partner before fleeing with stolen property.

He has been charged with:

  • aggravated assaulted x 5
  • damage to property x 2
  • armed in a public place
  • aggravated unlawful entry
  • robbery
  • distribute child abuse material
  • attempt unlawful entry

The man is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on tomorrow.

Acting Sergeant Jacqui Lynden said, "This kind of behaviour is abhorrent. Investigations are ongoing into the incidents. We believe there may have been pedestrians in the area on 4 December.

"We urge anyone from these particular areas who may have witnessed the incidents, or anyone with CCTV or dash-cam footage, to contact police on 131 444. Please quote reference number 9871551. Anyone aware of or experiencing domestic and family violence is encouraged to reach out for help."
