Police make arrest - Police officers assault at Tennant Creek

Northern Territory Police have arrested two people in relation to assaulting members of the police force.

Yesterday evening, members were arresting a 17-year-old female for breach of bail offence. During the arrest, the 17-year-old spat in the face of one of the officers.

The female was being placed in the police vehicle when a second adult female has approached another officer and punched him in the face.

Both females, aged 17 and 60, were taken to Tennant Creek Police Station and charged with one count of assault police.

Senior Sergeant Crispin Gargan said, "The officers were required to attend hospital, one for medical treatment for minor cuts and the second for a blood test.

"No one should have to deal with this as they go about their work. We're here to serve and protect the community and at times it's members of the community who are hurting our officers. It's completely unacceptable and both can now face court for their actions."
