Police make arrests - Disturbances in Alice Springs

Northern Territory Police have made multiple arrests after incidents in Alice Springs this morning.

Just before 6am, police responded to reports of general disturbances and people armed with blunt and edged weapons in the vicinity of Ciccone and Alice Springs.

Attending officers located four people near Schwarz Crescent who were injured.

Other officers pursued a motor vehicle from nearby to south of The Gap where six occupants were stopped and arrested.

The occupants remain in police custody.

The four injured people were conveyed to Alice Springs hospital, one of whom suffered serious injuries.

Commander James Gray-Spence said, "This incident is now under investigation by Detectives from Regional Investigations, supported by the Southern Major Crash Unit.

"Our early information indicates the initial disturbance and armed person reports are linked to a subsequent collision between a vehicle and people on foot in the vicinity.

"There is no residual risk to members of the public and anyone who has information in relation to this incident is urged to contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."

Motorists are advised that:

• South bound Stuart Highway traffic will be diverted right onto Smith Street.

• Schwartz Crescent closed inbound towards Stuart Highway.

• Northbound Stuart Highway diverted left into Whittaker or right into Wills
