A watchful neighbour has aided in the arrest of two people allegedly tampering with vehicles in Northland last night.
At about 6.50pm, an informant called Police after spotting people running from a vehicle parked near the corner of Mackesy Road and Riverside Drive.
Senior Sergeant Charmaine Smith, Whangārei Area Response Manager, says Police arrived quickly and the Delta unit was put to task.
"The dog was able to track from the vehicle and quickly located two people nearby."
She said they were taken into custody without incident.
"This is a great result for Police and our community.
"We hope the public can be reassured we have no tolerance for this behaviour."
Police continue to ask the community to report suspicious activity in their neighbourhood.
"Police acknowledge the vigilant member of the public for reporting the suspicious activity in the first instance," Senior Sergeant Smith says.
Two 19-year-old males have been charged with unlawfully getting into a motor vehicle, theft from a motor vehicle and possess instruments for conversion.
They will appear in Whangārei District Court today.
